Walk a Thon

The Walk a Thon at Andrew's school was last Friday. He was so excited about this event for the month leading up to it. He collected $150 in pledges for his school. He even asked three of our neighbors for donations. This year I was able to take the day off work and help out.

Here is his class before the walk a thon. His teacher gave them all pom poms, but most of them didn't want to carry them during the walk. Last Friday turned out to be the hottest day of the spring so far. I may have forgotten to put sunscreen on Andrew and myself so we both got sunburned. Andrew was sure to bring his water bottle though.

Here is Andrew at the start. They all start out running, but slowly end up walking.

This year they counted the laps on the backs of their T-shirts. I was a lap counter, so Andrew kept coming in my lane to get his mark.

He was very excited at the end to have completed 26 laps. The goal for his class was for everyone to walk at least 20 laps. He was really hot and tired afterwards.

After lunch the school had a small carnival where each classroom sponsored a booth. The kids earned tickets for every 5 laps they walked, but they could also purchase more. One of the booths was face painting and this time Andrew got a skull. I'm not sure what the deal with my kids and face painting is, but they really like it.

This booth had an electronic drum set that the kids could try out. Andrew really enjoyed this - what 6 year old wouldn't? Overall, it was a good event and is the school's biggest fundraiser of the year.

That's awesome Ali, I can't believe that he asked your neighbors! I should have Max go out and do that :) I'm such a slacker and haven't even turned in our envelope...oops.

{High Five} Andrew!
Glad you got a chance to help out at the school. I have been debating helping out at ours. I think I might go for it now. ;)
What a cool way for the kids to earn little rewards at the end.
