Panda bear diorama

In school has been learning about non-fiction books. They had to pick a book about an animal a few weeks ago and they have been doing various writing assignments about that animal. Andrew picked the panda bear and he now knows lots of facts about them. He told most everyone he meets this fact: "Did you know that panda bears are NOT bears, they are more closely related to raccoons!" So for the last week on non-fiction they had to build a diorama of a panda bear habitat out of shoe box.

We tried to get him to make some panda bears, but he insisted on using the ones from the Little People zoo set. He drew pictures of the mountains in the background and painted the trees just behind the bears. We also used green pipe cleaners to represent the bamboo. His favorite part as making the dirt and the rocks that are around the base of the trees. I bought some modeling clay so that we could use it as a base to hold the trees up.

She used the left over clay and pipe cleaners to create her own panda bear habitat.

Ta-da!! She was very proud of her creation. She always wants to be doing homework like Andrew. Let's hope that she still feels that way in a few years!
