Summer adventure day 4 - Rexburg

On our second day in Rexburg we went to Bear World which is only about 15 minutes from Natalie's house.  It is like a drive through zoo.  You stay in your car and drive through the park with the windows closed.  You have to drive slowly because as you can see below there is wildlife on the road.  Grant was really scared of the bears at first because they get quite close to the car.  They had both Grizzly bears and Black Bears.

There were bears walking around everywhere.

We finally told Grant to wave and say hi to the bears and he liked that.

Some of the bears were napping even though we went fairly early so it wasn't too hot yet.

The bears are in their own area away from the other animals.

There was one moose, they are quite large.

They had two bear cubs that were playing together.  They were so cute!  Natalie said that they had brought one of them to Chris's preschool in the spring and it has grown quite a lot since then.

I was trying to get them to pose in front of the bear cubs. Chris and Grant were distracted by the bears.

Maybe group shots just aren't our forte.  I thought this was a cool sign though.

With the admission you also got to go to the petting zoo.  I like this picture of Natalie trying to take a picture while Chris still wanted to hold her hand.

They had to work up some courage to pet the deer.

There was a learning center with all different types of pelts that talked about the differences between the types of bears and other animals.

You can pay extra to take a ride in the curator truck where you ride on top and get to feed bread to the bears.  This would have been quite expensive with everyone we had, but we were able to watch from near the petting zoo.

Plus there were mini-carnival rides.  It wasn't crowded so the four older kids went from ride to ride multiple times.

The train was Grant's favorite.  In fact, he rode it many times while the other kids were in the petting zoo.  He didn't want any part of that.

Andrew, Claire, Elaina and Chris all wanted to ride in the front car (mostly because it had a bell you could ring), so they decided to squeeze in and ride together.

The rest of this ride was empty, but again, they all wanted to ride together.

You can drive through the zoo part as many times as you want, so we did another pass before we left.  We got to see the very rare white elk.

Plus the bison!

Back to the bears.  It looks like this bear is checking out those bikes as a possible snack.

And here is a picture Natalie took of the bear by my van.

Bye Bear World!  Grant loved it there and begged to go back every day.

In the afternoon we went to Rexburg Rapids.  It is an actual water park with a lazy river and other water slides.  It cost a whole $5 per person - amazing.  I didn't get any pictures there but the kids had a lot of fun in the lazy river.  It was also quite hot and crowded.  We got take out and had a picnic in the park for dinner.  Natalie said we were going to a nature park.  I thought that was odd since most parks have nature in them, but when we pulled up we noticed that the park is actually called Nature Park.  We played on the slides for a while and walked around the park.

Andrew and Chris spotted a snake which they thought was the best thing ever.  I was in the back so I didn't get a picture of it.

I love this picture of Claire holding Mateo's hand.

Once again, we stayed out until dark.  There is also a skate park there and the kids were fascinated watching the skateboarders and bikers doing their tricks.  We were leaving the next morning for Yellowstone, so it was off to bed.
