Andrew plays baseball in Blossom Valley PONY Baseball. This was his second year in the Pinto division. Danny managed his team, the Phillies, for the first time this season. In past seasons Danny has been a coach, but not the manager. There were 13 kids on the team with various levels of playing experience. Overall, the team did well at 10-6 and finished fourth in the division. Andrew mostly played shortstop, first base and pitcher. Here he is playing shortstop.
Here he is warming up in the bullpen. Although he likes pitching, he struggled with being afraid of being hit with the ball by some of the better batters.
Here he is on the mound. When he pitched, he did really well.
Andrew is often very critical of himself and thinks he didn't do a good job when he did. Leaving the field here, you can't tell if he did well or not.
Danny welcoming the team back into the dugout after the inning.
Andrew definitely liked playing in the infield more than the outfield, like most of the team.
More than anything, Andrew struggled with his hitting this season. He would get quite upset when he couldn't hit the ball. Danny tried really hard to help him understand that it is okay when he doesn't get a hit, but this is a work in progress. It seems to be something that is not uncommon in boys his age. Next season, Andrew moves up a division to Mustang where additional rules are introduced like leading off and stealing. Hopefully, he continues to improve and enjoy learning the game.
