There were a lot of fun events this year for Halloween. But first, the important stuff - costumes. Andrew chose a costume from Iron Man 2 this year - no he hasn't seen the movie (I haven't even seen it). He saw it in catalogue and thought that it looked cool. We tried to get him to change his mind and do something more familiar, but it didn't work. Claire wanted to be the princess Belle, which was fine, but she has three other princess costumes that we could of used. She already has Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White dresses that would have worked, but of course she wanted to be the one we didn't have. Luckily we happened to be at Costco one day and they had a perfect Belle costume. Claire had a mini trunk or treat after preschool one day. All of the parents gathered on the sidewalk and the kids walked around in their costumes. They were really cute and so excited to go trick or treating.
Me handing out candy. Thanks to Sara for the pictures because I forgot my camera.
Here are the kids in her class R-L: Cayden, Claire, Ava, Ben, and Nolan. Katie wasn't there that day.
Andrew's school had a Halloween parade. He is War Machine, who I gather is a friend of Iron Man's. He was excited that his friend from class (just in front of him) was Iron Man. It was nice that they had the parade at 8:15 am which is just after drop off so that the parents could just stay rather than come back later. Grant wasn't thrilled with the whole event, so I had to hold him most of the time. Luckily I was able to put him in the stroller for bit, otherwise I think that Andrew would have been upset that there weren't any pictures of his parade. On to Pumpkin carving on Friday night! The kids were so excited to do this!
Claire got right in there and wanted to help scoop out the guts. As with before, she kept asking if we were going to make the pumpkin into pie.
Andrew was also excited about doing the scooping.
Soon Claire lost interested in the seeds and started carving the lid. Danny helped Claire design the front of her pumpkin, while Andrew drew the face on his. Andrew tried to do some of the cutting, but it was a bit difficult to cut some of the small details, so Danny helped him with that.
Andrew's finished product -a scary pumpkin. Saturday night we went to a party at the church where they played games and got to go trunk or treating which is really fun because all of the cars are close together, so it is a quick way to get lots of candy.
Here is Claire in her Belle costume with her completed "nice" pumpkin. She has a library book about princesses that she brought into the bathroom so that I could use it to style her hair in an authentic manner - down to the yellow ribbon in her hair. Although, I couldn't do it just like the real Belle. Claire doesn't have enough hair to do a bun on top and still have long flowing hair left.

Andrew as War Machine - with all of his guns.
A group shot - no costume for Grant. He and I stayed home while Danny took the kids trick or treating.

Here they are sorting and surveying the loot. Danny told Andrew that he wouldn't like certain candies, so we should just throw them away, but of course he didn't believe him. So Andrew tried them and then spit them out. Unfortunately, the candy got taken away on Tuesday because they would eat a piece and be bouncing off the walls. Interestingly enough, they haven't asked about it since. The kids really enjoyed Halloween this year and can't wait until next year to pick out their costumes.
