I had to go to Buffalo, NY for a work project in February. It isn't the best time of year to go to Buffalo, as the temperature high was supposed to be 10 degrees. I had to fly to Chicago first and then on to Buffalo. This was the sight flying into Chicago.
When I landed, I found out that my connecting flight to Buffalo had been cancelled and that they had re-booked me on a flight leaving at 10:00 pm I had about 8 hours to spend in the airport. Luckily I had plenty of work to keep me busy. When we finally landed in Buffalo after midnight this was the scene. I couldn't believe how much snow was on the ground! There were snow plows all over the airport.
I couldn't get my rental car because it was so late, so I had to have Enterprise pick me up in the morning. This was my car on the morning of day 2. It is no fun to scrape snow off of a car in the morning.
My city boots were no match for the snow. My feet were cold all day.
I really wanted to go see Niagara Falls before my plane left on Friday morning. I was worried about driving due to the snow, but there was a break in the weather so I decided to try it. The freeways were really clear, but there was a lot of snow on the sides. It is about 30-40 minutes to Niagara Falls.
It was pretty clear when I arrived, but it was really, really windy and COLD! The observation telescopes were all totally frozen over. It was really hard ice, no scraping it off.
This is American Falls, The bridge in the distance is how you get to the Canadian side. It was amazing how much snow was everywhere.
I had to take my glove off to take this picture and soon regretted it.
This is the path from American Falls to Horseshoe Falls.
Those hotel/casinos are on the Canadian side.
Luckily I got someone to take my picture at Horseshoe Falls. COLD!!
This is the Niagara River with chunks of ice in it before it goes over the Falls.
It was amazing to see how much ice and snow was on this tree.
This is where the water comes in for the American Falls by Luna Island.
These sad picnic benches were covered in snow. Even though it was cold when I was there, at least it wasn't crowded. I read that it can be quite humid and crowded in the summer. Plus parking was free!
