Grant's birthday came upon us fast after the move and the start of school. We were hoping that we could get away with something less formal than a party, but Grant insisted that he wanted a Spiderman party. We invited his friends from church and his friend Jayden from school On his actual birthday he got to pick out what he wanted for dinner. He picked Sweet Tomatoes mostly because there is soft serve ice cream at the end.
I decorated the dining room and entry way with lots of red and blue streamers along with Spiderman pictures. Incidentally, we had to leave the decorations up for a few weeks because Grant wouldn't let us take them down.
I made spider web cupcakes instead of a cake because kids don't usually eat the cake - just the icing.
The first game we played was catch the bad guys with sticky hands. The hands kept getting balled up, but once they got the hang of it they liked it.
Next we played stick the spider on Spiderman.
Then we went outside to play throw the spider on the web.
They were most looking forward to shooting "spider web" at the bad guys.
The goal was to have them use silly string to try to hit the bad guys that we had tied onto a string. It was hard to get the string to come out at first. Once they got the hang of it, they loved it.
We only had enough for one can each, but we should have had two. Once they got the hang of it, their can was empty.
Our final game was relay races. This is Grant and his friend Jayden in matching Spiderman shirts.
Then it was time to blow out the candles and open presents. We ended a little early, but the kids just played in the time remaining. I joked with some of the parents that we could have just had everyone over for a big play date and not done any games and they would have still had fun.
