There are some man made lakes in the development where Rose lives. Rose gave the kids some stale bread to feed the ducks and they were excited to do this. I am not sure I have ever taken them to feed ducks. I must be a bad mom. There were only three ducks there so they were really, really well fed that day.
We were headed to Provo to check out BYU and have lunch. On the way we stopped at the Jordan River Temple which is also very close to Rose's house. This temple was completed in 1981.
It sits on a busy street, so I was standing in the street trying to get this shot between cars passing by.
Then onto the Provo Temple. This temple is very close to Dorothy's house (she was out of town so we couldn't visit her) and the MTC. I love how close it is the mountain in the background. This temple was completed in 1972.
We quickly found out that Wednesdays are missionary drop off days at the MTC. There were lots of families taking pictures and saying goodbyes. A family offered to take our picture and in return we took theirs. They were dropping of their daughter for her mission. She was going to be their third child currently serving a mission. Wow!
Here is all of the traffic headed into the MTC for drop offs.
We went to the Wilkinson Center for some lunch and to search for a hat for Andrew. He wanted one like Landon's but he got sidetracked by a football helmet that he thought he needed. Many tears later he got his hat and we were on our way. Hopefully one day we can hike up to the Y in the background. I think that Andrew could have done it, but definitely not Claire and Grant.
These might be some future students!
We drove downtown to see the construction on the new Provo City Center Temple. There was no where to park so we didn't get out of the car. It is amazing how they are able to maintain the old brick façade of the tabernacle that was there and convert it into a temple. Obviously my picture taking skills are lacking and the temple isn't crooked.
We meandered our way through several neighborhoods in American Fork to find the Mount Timpanogos Temple. Grant was really tired by this point and not really into taking pictures. This temple was completed in 1996 and Danny and I were able to go the open house.
We took Grant back to Rose's house for a nap and I took Andrew and Claire to Thanksgiving Point to the Museum of Ancient Life. It is basically all about dinosaurs. It has a lot of information to read and goes through all of the time periods that the dinosaurs lived in. After a while they just wanted to look at the bones and didn't want me to read them any more information. They had a lot of interesting displays and information about the various places in the US where they have found bones. Here they are posing next to the leg of a dinosaur (I don't remember which one).
They were of course interested in all of the computer displays with games on them. It is amazing to see how huge the brontosaurus were.
They had a stuffed animal dinosaur puzzle where they had heads, tails, bodies and other dinosaur parts that attached together with Velcro so that you could build your own animal.
There is, of course, a water area. This is where the kids could experiment with the sand and water to make floods or landslides to show how the dinosaurs might have died.
At the very end of the museum there is a dinosaur dig site which is a room full of sand with dinosaur bones buried in it. Andrew didn't want to do this, but Claire loved it. The only problem was that the sand was super fine which made the room really dusty.
There are a lot of things to see and do at Thanksgiving Point, but since we were only there for a couple of hours we couldn't do everything. The kids really wanted to visit the farm and were more excited when they found out that the entrance included a pony ride.
Claire specifically wanted to ride this white pony.
We also got to go on a tractor ride.
There are lots of animals to see at the farm including horses, cows, pigs, turkeys, rabbits, sheep, etc. They were nervous about petting this horse, but they saw someone do it before them, so they thought it would be okay.
When we got back to Rose's house Natalie was there which, of course, was very exciting!
