Well, I guess we didn't catch all of the leprechauns last March, so Andrew had to build another trap this year. He was excited to build a trap, but had some trouble coming up with the perfect idea. It was interesting to go through the though process behind the trap, because he truly believes that the are real. So, if I threw out an idea he would respond with something like, "no, that wouldn't work because they are very tricky/sneaky/fast and they would get away". We took a trip to Michael's and the Dollar Store to get our supplies and we were off! He settled on a park like setting to lure them onto the box. He found sticks in the front yard and cut and broke them to make the ladder. He was upset that I wouldn't let him use the hot glue, but he was excited that the glue dried fast.
The part of this that is the trap is hidden. You can't see it in the pictures, but before we covered the box in green tissue paper he cut a hole in the top. The hole is under the whole rainbow so that when the leprechauns try to steal the money they will fall through the thin tissue paper and into the box. He added the "Do not take" sign because apparently leprechauns do the opposite of what you tell them.
I helped in Andrew's class on Friday and I got to see all of the traps. It was really fun to see how creative the kids were. Apparently when they were at lunch, the leprechauns got into the classroom and knocked some chairs over and took some candy. They also spread green glitter all over. Unfortunately, they weren't able to catch on though. Maybe one of the other classes did.
