President's Day (now it is a whole week)

This is going to make me sound really old, but when I was in school President's Day was a one day holiday. Now the kids get the whole week off and it is sometimes known as ski week.  I find this odd as they just got two weeks off at Christmas time.  My mom was planning on watching Andrew and Claire this week and thought that it would be fun to go and visit Erik and Lisa first and then go to Ryan and Mandy's house.  In the meantime Andrew was assigned his 4th grade mission project.  He was assigned Mission Santa Barbara which, oddly enough, is the same one that I did in 4th grade! So my mom decided to take a detour and visit Mission Santa Barbara on the way to Erik's house.  Instead of having to build a model, the kids get a choice of what they want to do.  We convinced Andrew to do a Power Point presentation.  They did a self guided tour on site and Andrew took all of the pictures for his project and even a few videos.  He really enjoyed visiting the mission and seeing all of the different rooms like the chapel and kitchen.

Claire, of course, wanted to help, so she took plenty of pictures as well.

They had a great time playing with Taylor and Mackenzie.  They went to the LA Zoo one day and argued about who got to sleep on the air mattress.

Next up was the 3 hour drive to Visalia.  One day they went to out Lindsay, where Ryan works, to the sports complex.  I have not been there, but this place seems amazing.  First, they played laser tag and video games.

Then some indoor football with Ryan, Landon, and Andrew.

I was surprised to learn that they did indoor rock climbing!  They both said they really liked it.

But the highlight of the visit was the surfing wave.  They didn't so surfing, but they did do boogie boarding. They absolutely loved this!  My mom even took video of them. They said you have to get the hang of it first, but it was really fun.

These pictures look like they were taken on a fake background!

They came back exhausted, but super happy.  They really want to visit the sports complex in Lindsay the next time we go out there.
